Proposition: An e-commerce company was looking for technology to
improve their visitor's shopping experience and decrease the drop off
rate at the order completion page.
Solution: VRex Productions took stereo 3D pictures of the
entire product inventory. VRex than worked with the company's
programmers to created a 3D viewing option on all the product images
of the site. When an individual went to look at an item, it would
automatically default to 2D viewing, however if a visitor were
equipped with 3D glasses, they could select the 3D viewing option
button and the 3D photo would appear. The company distributed inexpensive
paper anaglyph glasses that were branded with their company name and logo
to visitors that requested them through their site. The VR Visualizers were
also offered on the site for purchase.
Results: The Company reported that customers loved the 3D
viewing option and it increased consumer's confidence in the item
they were purchasing. The drop off rate at the time of purchase
decreased by 20%. The site generated a tremendous amount of publicity
by incorporating stereoscopic 3D.
*Please note this is a
hypothetical case study, and is only an example of how 3D technology
can work in this industry.
